DiveRACE Foundation Coral Restoration Project
We have a dream.
An underwater dream that has beautiful coral reefs filled with thriving and bustling marine life. Schools of fish blanket over the reef that spans beyond what our eyes can see.
In reality, our coral reefs are slowly declining in this current environment. Rising sea temperatures, global warming, and pollution from human activities are just some factors that negatively affect our fragile marine environment. The recent El Nino in May 2024 caused the fourth massive global coral bleaching in the last 10 years. Many corals in Thailand were bleached and died.
We, as humans, are able to play a critical role in giving back to our marine environment. By actively assisting in regrowing and maintaining coral reefs using well-tested artificial methods, DiveRACE has an ambitious plan to save our coral reef, one at a time. We strategized and sought help to develop a project that uses specially designed reef structures that are modular and effective in a large-scale setting. This project has been officially endorsed by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (Thailand).
Our goal is to create a reef that spans over 10,000 square meters and to see an increased fish population at our restoration site. We believe there are many others out there who are as passionate about wanting to give back to our environment. We implore you to come and join our cause, no matter a diver or not!

SUPPORT US
At the core of our restoration project are the artificial structures, Super Reef Stars. These are specially designed to help improve the survivability of the coral fragments that are planted onto it and to be modular for the ease of logistics. Each of our Super Reef Stars is made of steel and coated with resin and marine sand.
The fabrication of these structures provide work opportunities for the local communities too. We believe that getting various stakeholders involved is a key factor for the longevity for our project.
The vessel will transport the stars to our restoration site and our team of trained divers will install these Super Reef Stars underwater. Each coral fragment would be painstakingly attached to the stars. One Super Reef Star is able to hold up to 24 coral fragments.
After that, weekly or biweekly maintenance at the restoration site would be require to ensure good conditions for the corals to grow.

OUR PARTNERS
Livingseas Foundation
Our inspiration comes from our good friends at Livingseas Foundation, which started its coral restoration program in 2018 at Padang Bai, Bali. They have seen much success in their restorative methods and are continuing to expand to other regions. Mr. Leon Boey, who is the founder of Livingseas Foundation, also acts as our close advisor for our coral restoration project.
Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR)
The Thailand authority for all matters relating to marine conservation. DiveRACE works closely with the DMCR on coral restoration and reef surveys.
