Phi Phi Islands

Situated in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands are one of southern Thailand’s most iconic diving destinations. The islands are surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs, colourful coral reefs, underwater walls and rocky pinnacles, creating a varied underwater landscape for divers of all experience levels.

The waters around Phi Phi are known for their clear tropical reefs, impressive rock formations and abundant marine life. Sheltered bays provide calmer conditions, while deeper walls, pinnacles and exposed sites can offer stronger currents and encounters with larger pelagic species.

Marine highlights include:

• Leopard sharks resting on sandy bottoms and reef slopes
• Blacktip reef sharks around shallow reefs and sandy areas
• Large schools of trevally, fusiliers and barracuda moving through the reefs

Phi Phi offers a combination of mild to moderate currents, with stronger conditions possible at more exposed sites. Depths generally range from shallow coral gardens of around 5 metres to 30 metres or more at deeper walls and pinnacles. Visibility can vary with tides, weather and plankton levels, but the nutrient-rich waters support an impressive variety of marine life.
